A commemorative coin with a face value of 25 guilders was issued in Suriname in 1990 and is dedicated to the 14th FIFA World Cup, which was held in Italy.
The coat of arms of Suriname is depicted on the front side: two indigenous inhabitants of the country holding a central shield. It represents the present, depicted in the form of a palm tree, which is also a symbol of a righteous person. On the reverse side there is a football composition of the match taking place at the stadium, two football players compete for the ball. The player in the foreground takes possession of the ball while being chased by an opponent who is trying to seize the initiative and regain control of the game.
